Go Fiji!!!
Dr Mike
Gosling was born in Suva, Fiji Islands, on 16 April. 1949, at the Nurse Morrison
centre. My grandfather, Captain Harry
Gosling, was from Hull, Yorkshire, UK.
He settled in the Fiji Islands in the early 20th century
after the ship on which he was third officer was wrecked in the Yasawa Group on May 10, 1910 at age 21. He married Maud Williams and later established the well-known stevedoring firm and shipping agency,
Williams and Gosling Ltd in 1926, with his father-in-law,
Captain Frank Williams.
Williams & Gosling was later bought by
the Aidney family who established it as a
prominent Fiji firm under the guidance of
Senator Don Aidney (deceased 2007) and his son and current Chairman, David Aidney.
My father, John
(Jack) William Gosling (deceased 1994) was
born in Fiji in 1920. He was the youngest officer to attain the rank of Major in the Fiji Military Forces during WWII. Dad was successful
shipping manager and exceptional Fiji cricketer and team manager,
renown for his medium-paced swing bowling.
My mother is Jean (Paddy) Gosling (nee Tarr).
An endearing and generous person who will always make you welcome, Mum now lives at Southport, Gold Coast, Australia,
as do my five siblings and their families.
I
received my primary and secondary education
at the Boys Grammar and Suva Grammar Schools,
completing the New Zealand School Certificate
in 1964. I started my working life on
the Suva wharves as a shipping clerk and later
became branch manager of Morris Hedstrom Ltd,
a large retail and wholesale island trader
in Fiji and the South Pacific from 1970-1973.
I was married to Frances Huppatz and we have three daughters, Melissa (1969) and identical twins, Kristie and Talei (1972). I immigrated
to Australia from Fiji in late 1973. Frances and I seperated in 1974. I became an Australian
citizen on 15 November 1976. I moved to live and work in Adelaide, South Australia and married Karen Alm in May 1977. We have two sons, Daniel (1990) and William (1993). Karen and I are Australian Citizens and permanent residents of Singapore, where we have lived and worked since April, 1997.
I
am now Founder and Chief Executive of my own company,
Gosling International Pte Ltd, a leading
international emotional wealth development counseling, coaching, training and information products
corporation established in Singapore in January
1998 serving committed clients wordwide.
The BULA Project initiative seeks to change minds, change lives of the people of the Fiji Islands by assisting in their ongoing physical, emotional, and economic development . We focus on helping individuals develop skills, resources, and support for family living and village cottage industries run by women so they can find freedom from the cycle of poverty and lead lives full of joy, hope, health, and dignity.
"BULA" is a Fijian language word meaning "life", and is also commonly used as a greeting, "hello". The expression "Ni sa bula vinaka" is the full correct greeting, meaning "wishing you happiness and good health". It also is used in the sense of "bless you" or "gesundheit" when you sneeze!
We have used "BULA" as the name of our charity project for the Fiji Islands as it reflects our vision and commitment to real life - Bringing You Life in Abundance! Our goal for The BULA Project is to provide the men, women and children of the Fiji Islands opportunities for living, loving support, and educational training to help them achieve their human potential and create for themselves a thriving future.
The BULA Project is in its beginnings and is administered by Dr Mike Gosling. It is not yet a registered charity. Our commitment is to set aside 10% of our income earned from internet marketing each year toward the goals of the project. Should you be interested in making a contribution, please email me.
