Mike
Gosling was born in Suva, Fiji
Islands, on 16 April. 1949, at the Nurse Morrison
centre. My grandfather, Captain Harry
Gosling, was from Hull, Yorkshire, UK.
He settled in Fiji in the late 18th century
and established the well-known shipping agency,
Williams and Goslings Ltd, with his father-in-law,
Captain Frank Williams who lived in Amy Street.
Williams & Goslings was later bought by
the Aidney family who established it as a
prominent Fiji firm under the guidance of
Senator Don Aidney. My father, John
(Jack) William Gosling (deceased 1994) was
born in Fiji in 1920. He was a successful
shipping manager and well-known Fiji cricketer,
renown for his medium-paced swing bowling.
My mother is Jean (Paddy) Gosling (nee Tarr).
Mum lives at Southport, Gold Coast, Australia,
along with my five siblings.
I
received my primary and secondary education
at the Boys Grammar and Suva Grammar Schools,
completing the New Zealand School Certificate
in 1964. I started my working life on
the Suva wharves as a shipping clerk and later
became branch manager of Morris Hedstrom Ltd,
a large retail and wholesale island trader
in Fiji and the South Pacific. I immigrated
to Australia in late 1973 and became an Australian
citizen on 15 November 1976. I
am now Chief Executive of my own company,
Gosling International Pte Ltd, a leading
emotional Leadership coaching and counseling
corporation established in Singapore in January
1998.
